How much do resale stores pay you for your used baby stuff?
I have heard that there are stores that buy your used baby stuff, how much do they pay? I have a lot of stuff from my kid and want to know if it’s better to try to sell it on my own or just take it to one of those stores? Also, how they decide how much to give you. I would think that a lot of it depends on quality.
I’ve sold to Once Upon a Child before and the way they work is that they will sell whatever item for half of what it costs in stores and then they will give you around half of that. So say a bouncer is $40 in stores, they will sell it in their store for $20 and give you around $10 for it.
You are probably better off selling it on your own through Ebay(if you want to deal with shipping and such) or Craigslist(if you prefer going local). That way you get to set the price. However, I wouldn’t price items over half of what you orginally paid for them or you probably won’t get a lot of bites.
We took two boxes full of our son’s baby clothes, vibrating rocker, 4 larger baby toys and all we got was a measly $54.00. It was nice to get some money for it, and the quality of our items were almost equivalent to being new…the only downfall was, if they already have a lot of baby clothes and equipment, they’re either not likely to buy it OR buy it cheaply. The store we took it to had aisles and aisles of baby clothes, strollers, highchairs, etc. You should look around and even call a few places to see how they work. IF you have more than one store in your area, actually stop by and see if they have a lot of what you’re planning on selling…I’d go with the one that has the least; then they’ll buy more of your items.

Not a lot. My friend sold her travel system (stroller + carrier), bouncer and jumperoo, and only got $60. That’s CRAP!! I say list your things on craigslist. Or, see if there is a consignment sale in your area. Where I live, there is a HUGE consignment sale twicea year. The organziers rent the civic center and people can tag their own stuff to sell there. I did this and kept 70% of the sale price (I named my own price) and the owners kept 30%.
Not only are those kinds of events great for getting the most money out of selling your stuff, they are great for buying things you need. I actually sold all of my son’s newborn clothes at the sale in March and then promptly got pregnant again! At the sale in September, I was able to buy tons of newborn clothes for like $50! I mean TONS of stuff! Plus, a swing, infant bath tub, etc…
Where do you live? Maybe I can help you find an event like this near you.
