Will latinos vote for Obama because of Richardson’s endorsement?

Can anyone think that latinos are so stupid to vote for Obama because of Richardson’s endorsement? That is just as stupid as voting for Hillary because you are a woman, or for Obama because you are black.

PLEEEEZE, endorsements mean nothing! You’re right - the only time an endorsement might mean something is if a voter is so stupid as to think "oh, Bill Richardson is really looking out for me and cares about me BECAUSE I’m ______." People may be lazy and stupid at times but not that stupid.

The only reason for the endorsement is because he wants to be the VP on the ticket and he wants to stick it to Hillary.

  2. I don’t think people in particular groups flock to a candidate because of these sorts of endorsements. It does give a psychological boost to Obama. And, it brings a lot of positive attention.

No, but the undecideds will take a second look.

Sort of how McCain accepted anti-catholic bigot John Hagee’s endorsement. Christian fundamentalists do not have a positive view of McCain. He called people like them agents of intolerance. But by having Hagee endorse him, he’s hoping they’ll take a second look at him and soften their views.

  8. Yep. Endorsements assume people will be sheep and will vote for someone because someone else likes them. I’m glad endorsements haven’t counted for much so far because it shows that people can actually think for themselves!

Many Latinos already voted for Obama before the endorsement, and will continue to do so. Perhaps a greater percentage of Latinos will now favor Obama, and perhaps some of them will be influenced by Richardson, but Latinos do not vote as a monolith, and it is insulting to treat them that way. People make up their minds about candidates for lots of reasons, and endorsements usually only make up a small part of why people vote for a candidate.

  15. The only thing that endorsements might and usually help is the fact that the candidate is more likely to get money to run the campaign from people that like the endorser, like John Kerry endorsing Obama.

  16. I think it shows why he wasn’t a threat in the primaries. He has no loyalty and I also think his choice (my opinion) was racist and he has no leadership skills. All the reason he spoke of against Obama must have been meaningless to him. Wonder what Obama promised the guy if he got the office?
NM kick him out of office

  19. No, not at all. But, in politics, each candidate has a long donor list . Richardson has many political friends … at the state level and federal level..who will now throw their support behind Obama, and many of those are also super delegates. This is very big for Obama, and a blow for Hillary. The Hillary Camp has been after Richardson for weeks. This is not about the voting public… it runs much deeper than that.

It will help Obama just like any other major endorsement would. Now, when it comes to the general election, a huge majority of Hispanic-Americans will vote for the Democratic candidate, because they know Republicans are racists.
