What do you think about Governor Richardson doing this?

Source: Associated Press 5-01-08 issue. In 2003 Governor Richardson signed a measure into Law that allowed foreign nationals-including those living illegally in the country-to obtain a driver’s license. His office said that one of the deceiding factors was public safety.

Hillary supports it. Then when she came under fire for that, she blamed it on the NYC mayor. Now that Obama and Ricardson support it, she ’s back on the bandwagon and saying she thought of it first.

I don’t like it at all. If they have DL, that almost as good as a SS card. The theory behind this is, they are going to drive anyway, so why not make it legal. So, if a crime is going to be committed, just make it legal and the problem will go away? Why not do that with drug use , too?

Flawed thinking.

    It could be safer to have illegal immigrants driving on the road than walking around on the streets or driving against the law.

  5. I’m a little torn.

    Let’s give public safety a boost, yup. After that story where in the midwest this woman ran into a bus and killed school kids, I think we need to do something.

    But, if you find an illegal– you deport an illegal. You don’t give them a driver’s license. The hard part here is, how do you "find" an illegal? If they can identify the person as an illegal, chuck ‘em out.

    If you can’t, then anyone who gets behind a wheel NEEDS to be licensed. So, in that, I agree.
