What John Irving character is based on Frederick Buechner?

Irving was a student of his, and according to Buechner’s book Yellow Leaves, "In one of his novels the character of a minister based loosely on me turns out to be the narrator’s father" (60).

I’ve never read Irving, but would like to read the book referred to here. Which novel features a minister who turns out to be the narrator’s father?
