What is the nearest airport around Manhattan 40 Irving Place (Washington Irving High School)?
I need to go to Washington Irving High School for a job interview, but I’m not sure what the nearest airport is…I only know of JFK and La Guardia, but it takes more than 6 hrs to get to the school. Are those the only airports I can stop at?
There are 3 major airports that serve the NYC area - Newark Liberty, Laguardia, and JFK.
While Laguardia is marginally closer, the truth is, none of the airports is a REALLY easy ride into Manhattan. It also depends upon the traffic, because there are times of day when it’s just a breeze to get into Manhattan, and others when it will take forever to get to Manhattan! There is the airtrain from JFK to the subway, which is a little more predictable, because it doesn’t depend on traffic. But the truth is, get whatever flight is cheapest and easiest to book. I prefer to fly into Laguardia, but it’s really 6 of one, half a dozen of the other.
Oh, and Washington Irving High is pretty easy to get to by subway. You can take anything that stops at Union Square. (There are a number of lines that stop at Union Square.) Check out the website Hopstop.com where you can get good directions by subway to anywhere in NYC.
no, it does not take more than 6 hours to get to the school from either of those two. nearest is newark.

LaGuardia is the closest. Newark is in New Jersey an entirely different state. That would be stupid to go all the way to NJ when you can just come to NY straight, even if it’s 6 hrs away

LaGuardia is 20 min from there. JFK and Newark are a little farther.

Contact the school you are interviewing with, they will be able to tell you. Ignore the advice on Newark being in a different state. It is a different state , but just across the river.
According to Google maps. the closet airports are Laguardia, Newark and JFK in that order.

My friend, I agree with jbot2000, LGA is the closest airport to Washington Irving. The trip from the airport to the high schools take about 45 to 60 minutes.
Good luck

Neither JFK nor LaGuardia is 6 hours from Manhattan if you take a bus, subway, or taxi. It might take 6 hours if you walk or take a bicycle.
There are several airports in the area that have only private planes, and no scheduled commercial flights.
The nearest commercial airport to lower Manhattan is, strangely, the Newark, New Jersey airport.
Any commercial airport other than Newark, JFK, or LaGuardia will be much farther than those three.
