Will Monarch butterflies stop in the DFW area to lay eggs and produce the next generation?

I’ve looked on milkweed for years and even grown some. I’ve seen Monarch as they are migrating through, but have never been successful at raising any here. Do they in fact stop and reproduce here or just fly through?

I live about 50 miles East of Dallas and they do here. More development and farming/ranching have eliminated most of the milk weed. Some portions of property that are not maintained around here is where I have seen a few of the cacoons.

  1. I know they devour milkweed and complete their transformation here in Houston, so I don’t see why they wouldn’t do the same in Dallas. I would call the Botanical Gardens in Ft. Worth and find out; I’m sure they could give you a definite answer. Good luck–they are amazing creatures!
