If you are a new aquarium owner you need to make sure that when you are buying
aquarium supplies that you remember to pick up a heater for your tank. Don’t be cheap and buy one that’s too little for your fish tank. fish do not have sweat glands or any sort of inner thermostat, so they are very sensitive to water temperature change. They can handle gradual water changes, but not drastic temperature changes. Make sure that you have good water circulation throughout the tank and make temperature changes gradually. Three to five degrees per hour, keep close attention after turning up your heater. You may not realize how much you’ve warmed your water and
boil fish!

Numerous times I’ve seen dead fish that other aquarium owners have floating in their aquariums. These owners are usually upset because their fish has died. They are usually quick to blame the store they bought the fish from, or some other ridiculous reason. The plain fact is most fish die due to the neglect of the owner. Fish may die from a variety of things, but most can be traced back to the owner. Was the fish attacked by other fish? Did it die from shock from adverse or unnatural water conditions? Did it die from disease? The simple fact is, if your fish did not die of old age, there is something you as an owner could have done to prevent it. Knowledge is the key to preventing your fish from dying.
