What apartments would you recommend or side of portland?

January 18, 2010 - 4:51 pm 2 Comments

I am going to be attending Portland Community College(Beaverton) and my friend is going to atttend Mt.Hood Community College(Gresham) and we want to rent a apartment together but dont know where to rent it so it can be half and half(travel) I was thinking about NE? and what apartments would you recommend?

SW Portland would be exactly half way for both of you but there are not a lot of apartments in SW portland thats why I live in Beaverton. I recommend getting one of those apartment magazines and going through it together…maybe when she realizes Beaverton has newer more affordable housing she will give in? Sometimes you can even find a small house in NE portland to rent that is less expensive that any apartment.

When should I start viewing apartments if I want to move in at the end of June?

December 30, 2009 - 10:58 am 4 Comments

Me and my boyfriend are moving in together at the end of June, but we are unsure when to start looking round apartments. Can anyone give any advice?

Hi, as a landlord, I can accept potential tenants having to give a months notice in their current place - but in reality I don’t want my place standing empty for any length of time. If someone came to me in March and said, we’ll move in at the end of June, I wouldn’t want to keep the place available that long.

I’d say, middle of May at the absolute earliest, unless you can be flexible and bring forward your start date for the ‘right’ property.

What are private owned apartments on a college campus?

November 17, 2009 - 3:01 am 1 Comment

A college says there are privately owned apartments on the campus for students. Does this mean one can live there with his girlfriend. And is there any rule, not that we are planning to break any laws.

It means that there are apartments there that are not owned by the school. That the rules regarding who lives there and who does not, how long the leases are, how much the deposits are, how they approve people to live there…. these are decisions NOT made by the school, but by the folks who own the apartments. (Most importantly it means that paying for your housing is not connected with your financial aid account at the school at all.).

Also be aware most apartment complexes require you to sign leases in months, rather than semesters. So find out how long they want you to agree to stay there before you commit to anything. You don’t want to have to stay in a place long after you have graduated, transferred, or gone home for Christmas or Summer break!!!

Is it illegal to rent 2 apartments at the same time?

November 8, 2009 - 5:06 am 4 Comments

My husband and I have been renting an apartment for over a year, but now Im trying to rent another apartment for my mom and my sister, the lease will be under my name, and Ill pay for it. Is this legal? Im not going to get in trouble for having two apartments, right?

It’s not illegal, but you need to be clear with the second landlord that mom/sis are living in the apartment and you aren’t. They may need to be on the lease. (People not on the lease are considered guests or trespassers and guests are usually limited to 2 weeks stays.)

How often does Korean apartments stop the water service?

October 29, 2009 - 3:21 pm 4 Comments

When I visited my fiance’s family apartment, we could not use water a day or two days. How often does Korean apartments stop the water service?
Korea is lack of water?

I guess it depends on the apartment building or where you live also but as a general rule almost never except for maintenance if even that. Korea doesn’t lack water. Koreans have always been notorious for being daily bathers. Chinese emissaries from Ming dynasty kept records of how Koreans constantly bathed and Korean court recorded how Chinese emissaries never bathed.

What are some great apartments for young professionals in Dallas?

October 23, 2009 - 3:37 pm 4 Comments

I’m a young professional moving for work. I love to meet new people and I’m very social - I’ve never been to Dallas and I’m looking for a safe place and somewhere that is full of night life. I heard Uptown and Addison are good. Any good suggestions for areas and apartments to check out? Thanks!

The average age of Addison residents is significantly younger than the average age of the Texas population.

These apartments are considered nice and have good ratings. A lot of upwardly mobile professionals live there.

What are good dog breeds for people who live in apartments?

October 19, 2009 - 12:21 pm 14 Comments

I’m moving away to college ideally, I just haven’t received any information from the school yet. I’ll be living by myself and would prefer to have a dog. What are some good breeds for people who live in apartments? Either small ( like French Bulldog size) or any large breed that can live in a small place.

Newfoundlands are affectionate and can live in apartments, they also fall into the large dog catagory. Any toy breed does well in small homes. non-sporting dogs also do well. DO NOT get a hound, sporting hearding or terrier dog, they do not do well, and can develop hyper isolation anxiety which can cause destructive and agressive behavior.

What are the apartments in that private area in Chicago called?

October 17, 2009 - 3:37 pm 2 Comments

Now I can’t seem to locate this area on a map, but I’ve gotten stuck there before and its hard to find your way out. The entire area in downtown Chicago is full of fancy apartments with doormen and such and is elevated to where if you walk around that area you come to a bunch of terraces overlooking Chicago. There are stairs that bring you down to parking areas and such and I remember a grand staircase like park area somewhere nearby. Can anyone find this area on a map?

Look just east of Michigan Ave and west of Lakeshore Dr., north of the Chicago River. Also, it can be just about anywhere just west of Lakeshore Dr. north of where I mentioned above.
