When should I start viewing apartments if I want to move in at the end of June?
Me and my boyfriend are moving in together at the end of June, but we are unsure when to start looking round apartments. Can anyone give any advice?
Hi, as a landlord, I can accept potential tenants having to give a months notice in their current place - but in reality I don’t want my place standing empty for any length of time. If someone came to me in March and said, we’ll move in at the end of June, I wouldn’t want to keep the place available that long.
I’d say, middle of May at the absolute earliest, unless you can be flexible and bring forward your start date for the ‘right’ property.
It depends on the rental market where you are and even then that could change in the next few months.
Speak to a local estate agent - they may well say "come back in 3 months"!
Personally, I would wait until March to start looking.

You can start looking now just to get an idea of what is out there and what prices things are in your area. No landlord would hold anything for more than a month for you so you cannot really seriously look until May.

You can actually start looking now at least to narrow down the search options.
And if you are sure of the potential move-in date, landlords can tell you now, if apartments will be available then.
Or, you could wait till a couple of months before but some soon-to-be empty apts. may already be spoken for.
